Related to the article, "Dozen Hurt In Explosion: Stores Burn Downtown, Sixth and Broadway Fire Caused by Tank Blast; Traffic Jammed." Los Angeles Times, 23 Oct. 1935. Police Officers Jack Grey and E.R. Gauldin investigate burned debris from the old Norton Building on Sixth Street and Broadway. Grey appears to be holding a melted cash register tray, while Gauldin appears to be holding singed paper currency and melted coins. Gauldin looks straight ahead at the camera. Both men are crouched in front of a large vehicle and are in full police uniform. Gauldin's police badge reads, "Policeman [-] Los Angeles Police [-] [?]52." The number could possibly be "452" or "352."An acetylene tank had exploded on a scaffolding outside the Norton Building. It was being used for exterior remodeling the structure was undergoing. The building caught fire and fire crews were brought in to contain the damage. Handwritten on nitrate negative: E.R.
