Text from negative sleeve: Hollywood Dam x Access to this collection is generously supported by Haynes Foundation funds. A similar photograph appears with the article, “Hollywood Dam backed By Barrier,” Los Angeles Times, 28 Dec 1933: A1 In 1933, about ten years after the Dam was completed, the city started building what was known as a “psychological dam” -- made of dirt and gravel -- on the opposite side of the reservoir in order to appease residents’ safety concerns.
