This photograph is possibly related to the article, “Jurors Acquit Fitts of Perjury Charges,’ Los Angeles Times, 8 Feb 1936: 1-2. On February 7, 1936, District Attorney Buron Fitts was acquitted of perjury regarding a 1931 testimony over the sale of a Claremont orange grove. Mrs. Berthall Gregory, Fitts’ sister, sold the grove to Lucien C. Wheeler. Fitts reportedly falsified the amount of money he received through the sale. The perjury trial lasted three weeks.
