A different photograph of Helen Hulick taken on the same occasion appears with the article, "Teacher Jailed for Defying Judge's Orders on Slacks," Los Angeles Times, 16 Nov. 1938: A1. Helen Hulick and her attorney, William Katz, along with notary, Jeanette Dennis. Hulick was found in contempt of court for repeatedly wearing pants rather than a dress to testify against men who burgled her house. This may be an image of her obtaining a writ of habeas corpus, which allowed Miss Hulick to be released on her own recognizance. She is pictured here in a prison uniform.
