A similar photograph of the same event is captioned, “Awe of St. Nick Robs Her of Speech This little girl is overcome with shyness as she finds herself in presence of Santa and can't tell him right off what she wants in her stocking. Times photo,” Los Angeles Times, 24 Dec. 1938: A16
From left to right, a Santa Claus sits in his display and a girl sits on his lap. She appears to cry or scowl as she looks towards Santa Claus. Santa Claus looks at her as he holds onto her forearms. He sits in a small Christmas display that enters frame at left and stretches back towards center. The front of the small alcove is flanked by candy-cane striped columns. One is viewed close-up, stretching along the left edge. At right, a deer figure stands in partial view behind the display.
