Madam Ernestine Schumann-Heink, famous operatic contralto, received an honorary Doctor of Music from U.S.C. in 1922.
Different photographs taken on the same occasion appear with the article, "Record Class Graduated," Los Angeles Times, 16 Jun 1922: II2.
Madam Schumann-Heink sits at the front and center of the graduates lined up for a photograph. Her head is turned toward Rufus B. Von KleinSmid, president of the University of Southern California. The group is seated in front of the College of Liberal Arts building.
