Photograph taken during William Lewis Sachtleben's bicycle journey across Asia with Thomas Gaskell Allen Jr. View of Thomas Allen on his Humber bicycle in front of the Column of Constantine (Burnt Column). The bicycle of the photographer, Willism Sachtleben, is parked in the foreground. The Atik Ali Pasha Mosque (Gazi Atik Ali Paşa Camii) is visible in the background. The Column of Constantine is located on Yeniçeriler Caddesi in central Istanbul, along the old Divan Yolu (the 'Road to the Imperial Council') between Sultanahmet and Beyazıt Square (known as Forum Tauri in the Roman period.)
