Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. View of William Sachtleben standing in front of a doorway of the Tower of the Winds with his bicycle. The doorway is secure by a wooden slat gate and is flanked by 2 broken, fluted columns. Broken column drums line the base of the tower. The Tower of the Winds is an octagonal clocktower in the agora in Athens which features sundials, a water clock and a wind vane. Photograph taken during William Lewis Sachtleben's stay in Athens before embarking on a bicycle journey across Asia with Thomas Gaskell Allen Jr. Text from negative sleeve: No. 21.
