Photograph of a crowd standing outside of a building that houses the Masonic Temple, the Daily Bread Shop, and the Southern County Bank. It appears to be raining, as several people are using umbrellas and the roads are slick with water. There are several cars and some palm trees in the background. Handwritten on negative: So County Bank El Monte 1-31-36. Text from negative sleeve: 3532—El Monte Bank Robbery, Constable R. L. Foell. Act Chief E. Wiggins, Frank Smith, P.M. Kunou, Dep. Sheriff, E.S. Strong, Joseph Fritsch, Mrs Ann Smith, So County Bank. El Monte 1-31-36. [Stamped:] FEB 4 1936. Text from newspaper caption: Here is the Southern County Bank at Main and El Monte streets in El Monte where two bandits were slain and one captured as they attempted bank robbery yesterday with the county’s best pistol marksmen meeting near-by. A girl reporter summoned the officers, two of whom were slightly wounded in a quick gun battle.
