This photograph appears with the article, "Discovery Works Mile in Sensational Time," Los Angeles Times, 26 Jan 1936: A9.
Text from negative sleeve: He'd run a mile for a workout! It's Discovery, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt's crack flyer, who issued a challenge to Cavalcade and the other horses entered in the $100,000 Santa Anita Handicap turning in a 1:36 workout yesterday. Discovery, working with a stable-mate, Scotch Bun, opened up in the stretch and finished the mile in two-fifths of a second better than the workout mark hung up by Cavalcade Friday.
