Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. In the foreground of two houses the area is covered by mud, rocks, and fallen tree limbs. Photograph appears with the headline, "High Wind and Torrential Rain Leave Trail of Damage in Southland Towns," Los Angeles Times, 13 Feb 1936: 8/ Text from newspaper caption: FLOOD WATERS FROM FOOTHILLS SWEEP DOWN THROUGH TOWN OF UPLAND Waters from the prolonged and torrential rains crept down the sides of the foothills yesterday and turned the streets in the town of Upland into running rivers, filled them with silt curb deep, washed out pavements and cut gullies through the town. This picture shows a view of Twenty-fourth street at full flood tide with the Sprague home in the background. Many of the residents fled from their homes in the fear that they would be washed away by the mad torrents pouring from the hills. Handwritten on negative: Floods Upland 2 - 12 - 36 Text from negative sleeve: 3667 - Floods at Upland 2-12 - 36 [stamped:] Feb 14 1936
