Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph appears with the article, "Covered Wagon Kidnap Plot Told by Man, 91," Los Angeles Times, 11 Feb 1936: 10. A photograph of a picture of Hull, with the article from the newspaper attached with a paperclip to it. White lines form a rectangle isolating Hull's head from the rest of his body, with the background behind the right side of his head colored in black. While crossing the Oregon Trail with his family at eight months of age Thomas Hull's mother took ill and a Native American woman cared for him. She became so attached to Thomas that she took him back to her wigwam and after Thomas' father rescued him the woman was found the next day hiding in one of the covered wagons, claiming she couldn't stand to be separated from the baby. His father Joseph Hull found one of the first Masonic lodges west of the Rockies in Multnomah, Oregon, and Hull himself was a founder of Orange County, where he ran a general store.
