Whitney wed on February 29, 1872 they are celebrating their sixteenth wedding anniversary even though they have been married for sixty-four years. The 86-year-old and his 80-year-old wife are celebrating at the home of their daughter Mrs. Gertrude Goodcell of 2919 Asbury Street with their two other children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Photograph appears with the article, "Observance Dates Few," Los Angeles Times, 29 Feb 1936: A3. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney sit beside each other in rocking chairs; Mr. Whitney holds their great-granddaughter Nancy Joyce and her bottle while he critiques his wife on her knitting.
