Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Story related to photograph appears with the article, "New Dollar Club Raided," Los Angeles Times, 15 Dec 1935: A7. With their backs to the camera, the men lean over a table, alternately counting piles of money and writing information down. Building custodian and manager A. J. Gahring and cashier Joe L. White were booked during the raid. The club operated an own-your-home proposition where a $1 deposit was put down and was supposed to increase so much so as the person would be able to buy their own home. More than fifty persons were in the establishment at the time of the raid. Text from negative sleeve: 4108 - D. A. Inves. John Macdonnell A. J. Gahring Joe White Noreen Harwood Basil C. Yergin Dp.
