Shoutan, proprietor of a thirteen acre "milk factory" at 5909 Palo Verde Street won the first award for the best appearing section of the dairy contest. Photograph appears with the article, "Prize Dairymen Picked in Contest at Artesia," Los Angeles Times, 14 Dec 1935: 11. Text from newspaper caption: Sympathy as well as congratulations were extended to Nick G. Shoutan yesterday when officials of the Artesia Chamber of Commerce notified him that he had won first prize for dairy providing the best appearance.
