Chuckawalla Slim stands inside his mobile wagon, holding a rattlesnake skin. He wears a cowboy hat, a bandana around his neck, a chunky stone bracelet and ring, and his right arm is heavily tattooed. In his wagon, jewelry made by Native Americans, Native American basketwork, and either a painting or photograph of horses are displayed. Negative 13252 filed with negative 13253, but should be filed with negative 13251. Handwritten on negative: Chuckawalla Slim Text from [correct] negative sleeve: 4210 - "Chuckawalla Slim" Rockologist desert rat. Buys + sells minerals 12-2-35 [stamped:] Dec 26 1935 Text from newspaper caption: "Chuckawalla Slim," a desert trader, who utilizes a motorized covered wagon in place of the traditional burro, is back in Monrovia with his rocks and relics. "Chuckawalla" is a rare type of desert character, who talks collegiate American instead of the picturesque lingo of the Old West.
