This photograph is related to the article, "New Year Welcomed in Swirl of Gayety: Lid Off and Joy Unrestrained as Throngs Make Merry With Aid of Thousands of Texans," Los Angeles Times, 1 Jan. 1936: 1 From a bird's-eye view, the camera looks northeast up Broadway as hundreds celebrate the New Year. Broadway enters frame from the bottom half of the left edge and stretches back towards the upper right corner. The side of a building stretches across the right edge. On the sidewalk below the building at right, a large crowd walks along the sidewalk. Halfway up the image, 7th Street stretches across the photo, intersecting Broadway. The throng thickens, occupying Broadway on the far side of 7th. Buildings and theaters line the left side of Broadway as it stretches into the distance. Neon signs are visibly lit outside the buildings. From front to back, they read, "LOS ANGELES," "NATIONAL STORES," "WALKER'S," and "THE BROADWAY." Streamers and confetti litter the streets.
