Photograph of Mertie West bending over a camp stove with Forrest and Agnes Whitaker behind her next to a folding camp table and their car parked on the left at their camp site among large boulders. The area became a U.S. National Monument in 1936 and then Joshua Tree National Park in 1994. Mertie West was H. H. West's second wife. Forrest Whitaker was her brother and Agnes was Forrest's wife.
