Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Jacob Frank Lemberger 1850-1939, called Frank, was H. H. West's uncle. View of Crescenta Block, a 2-story wooden commercial building, on Downey Avenue at Truman Street. A sign on the building reads "Crescenta Block, 1895." A ground floor commercial sign reads "Fish, Poultry." A horse drawn wagon is stopped outside on the left. Across the street on the far left is a partially legible sign on a building that reads "Groceries." To the right of the grocery store a row of cypress trees are in front of a house that was owned by George M. West in 1888. Text from negative sleeve: 169. Los Angeles, Calif. Downey Ave. at Truman Street, about 1885. The block on the right was the Crescenta building owned by J. F. Lemberger, and the topped cypress trees on the left were in front of the residence of George M. West and family, when they came to Los Angeles in 1888.
