Description

West and Mertie Whitaker (later West) sitting in the sand in front of the North Beach bathhouse in Santa Monica. H. H. wears a fedora hat. He rests his arms on his knees that are slightly bent outward and looks slightly to the left; he holds a handkerchief in one hand. Mertie wears a boater hat. She rests her hands in her lap as she looks to the camera. Behind them, a ranch-type wooden building extends from the left to the right. It has a railing, two semi-circular, spoked decorative elements on the side of the building, a pitched, corrugated roof and a large dormer at top with seven windows.
