Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Annually, the Rubber Men's Picnic was organized by leaders in the rubber industry for tire and automotive accessory dealers in the automobile industry. Photograph of "Cap" (Clarence) Jargstorff holding a shovel amidst a grassy patch of the Catalina shoreline that is strewn with debris. He stands, in profile, left-of-center and holding the handle of a shovel as he looks down to the left. He dons a white apron and chef's hat. The grassy patch of land he stands on lies between the sand and the cliffs. A wash basin and large cylindrical vessel sit atop low-stacked, loose bricks in the foreground at center. Metal cans, wooden crates, a pan, spoons and other metal containers clutter the ground around him. On the far right, a man in a suit walks away from the camera while another stands beyond him and looks towards the left. Two small boats are moored on the beach on the left. A cliff rises out of the water on the right side of the photograph. Text from negative sleeve: 284 Catalina Island.
