The West, Schmitz and Scullin camping party fishes on the west (or upper end) of Convict lake near where Convict Creek enters the lake. Two men sit with their backs to camera on the rocky shore nearest to camera and three more men sit on a rocky shore in the distance. The two men in the foreground sit on the shore and face the lake, which extends to the right. The man at left wears a bucket hat and suspenders. The man at right sits with a bag next to his left hip. At left, a basket and fishing rod sit on the rocks. Beyond this duo, three men sit in the distance and face right towards the lake. Two men are visible to the left of the man in suspenders in the foreground and the other is visible to his right. A mountain rises from the lake's far bank in the distance.
