Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Five members of the West, Schmitz and Scullin camping party are gathered around their campsite near Convict Lake and cook up food. At left, a man stands and looks to camera with a towel or rag slung over his shoulder. To his right, a man smokes a cigar as he is crouched down near the stove that sits on the ground to his right. He tends to a pan on the stove top. Another man (maybe Jim Scullin) sits to the right of the stove. He looks to camera as he crouches down and holds a pan to the stove. The stove's stovepipe rises between them. Conrad Scullin stands behind the stove and to the right of the stovepipe. Standing on the far right, another man poses while holding a pan in one hand and a cigar in the other. Behind him, a tent stands. Mountains rise in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 368. Convict Lake, 1918. Cannot make out who these persons are in these 3 small negatives. But in the party were Al Schmitz, Harry Schmitz, Edward Steinberg, Jim Scullin, Scullin's boy and a man named Kirk, a friend of Scullin. H.H.West. 3 negatives.
