Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of H. H. West and company's campsite at the base of a mountainside near Bullfrog Lake in what is now designated as Kings Canyon National Park. Two members of the group stand off to the left within the campsite. Their gear is strewn across the ground and surrounding rocks. A few trees are interspersed among the rocks. The mountainside is visible between a gap in the trees at right. Text from negative sleeve: 553. Gardner Creek trip, about 1919. We get to Bullfrog lake and go into camp. It starts to rain. 2 negatives xxx [crossed out] making camp. Two negatives of my green tent set up on the edge of Bullfrog lake. It commenced to sleet and ice sagged the tent and finally tore it badly where it wasin[sic] the tree. It was cold. Had hard time start a fire, account everything wet. Finally got some supper and glad to get inside the tent out of the cold and rain. Next day was fine. Charlie Stavnow fishing Bullfrog lake. 5 negatives
