Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of H. H. West's green tent pitched to the left of Bullfrog Lake in what is now designated as Kings Canyon National Park. It stands at center in front of a tall tree that leans to the left. The camera sees through the left side of it and beyond it the rest of the campsite is visible to the left. Three members of H. H. West's camping party are gathered in the distance at left; they appear to be eating[?]. A hillside rises behind them. Bullfrog Lake is at right and beyond its opposite bank, a mountain rises in the distance. Text from negative sleeve: 553. Gardner Creek trip, about 1919. We get to Bullfrog lake and go into camp. It starts to rain. 2 negatives xxx [crossed out] making camp. Two negatives of my green tent set up on the edge of Bullfrog lake. It commenced to sleet and ice sagged the tent and finally tore it badly where it wasin[sic] the tree. It was cold. Had hard time start a fire, account everything wet. Finally got some supper and glad to get inside the tent out of the cold and rain. Next day was fine. Charlie Stavnow fishing Bullfrog lake. 5 negatives
