Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph, from left to right, of Charlie Stavnow and Al Schmitz looking at 2 trout caught from Convict Creek. Charlie sits on a raised, grassy patch of ground and faces towards the right. He rests his arms to his knees as he holds a trout by the mouth in each hand. He gazes down to his hands. A basket sits between his legs and a fishing rod rests against him. Al Schmitz stands in partial view at far right and also gazes at the fish. Open, grassy land stretches into the background. Snow-covered mountains stand in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: Hilton Creek, Calif. About 1920. Al Schmitz, Charlie Stavnow, Elmer Cole, H.H.West, with H.H.West's Cadillac. We camped in the rocks where Hilton Creek crossed the old lower road close to Owens River. Snow all around us. Bitter cold, and very windy. We put up a tarpaulin between the rocks to break the wind so as to have a fire to cook. Stavnow went thru the snow to his arm pits on the bank of Magee Creek. 2 views of the camp. Charlie Stavnow fishing in Convict creek on the meadow. Charlie Stavnow with two fine trout out of Convict creek. 4 films.
