Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a stretch of railroad tracks for the Southern Pacific Railroad running between Beaumont and Indio near Whitewater. The tracks extend from the lower right corner and up along the right edge where they eventually disappear near the horizon. Two tufts of smoke from trains are seen in the distance at center. The tracks are surrounded by low brush in a desert that extends towards mountains in the far distance at left. Text from negative sleeve: 601. Whitewater, Calif. 1899. Southern Pacific Investigation trip. The track between Beaumont and Indio. Freight trains coming west up the hill to Beaumont.
