Photograph of two tender cars propped up on posts to function as fuel oil storage for the Southern Pacific Railroad line in Crafton. The tanks stand side-by-side, propped up on wooden posts at center. Railroad tracks run in front of them at a slight, upward angle from left to right. A small building stands to the right of the tanks and extends out-of-frame. At left, an engine car (partial view) and another car sit behind the leftmost tank, facing towards the left. A ladder is propped up the side of the rightmost tank. The side of the engine car reads, "SOUTHERN PACIFIC," and the side of train car behind it reads, "1[?][4]9." Text from negative sleeve: 604. Crafton, Calif. 1899. The S.P.R.R. had just commenced to use oil as fuel instead of coal. Here are the two tenders up on posts at Crafton for fuel oil storage.
