Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph, from left to right, of Alexander Campbell and "Old man" Smith standing at Naud Junction and waiting for a train to Irwindale. They stand at the intersection of Alameda and Main Streets in Los Angeles on a bare patch of land between the tracks. Alexander Campbell stands at center and holds a cane. He is in profile and faces right. "Old man" Smith stands to the right of him with his back turned towards camera. Right of him, telephone poles stand. Tracks stretch towards the horizon on either sideof them and converge in the distance. A signal tower stands in the distance at left and buildings line the tracks at right. Text from negative sleeve: 615. Naud Junction, Los Angeles - 1900. Where the Alameda street tracks of S.P.R.R. meet those from Main Street and points east. Looking south from the little station that used to stand at the junction in the street. The old tower may be seen at left. We are going hunting out to Irwindale, and are to catch the Redlands local train from the Arcade depot outbound for Irwindale. Old man Smith is with us, and as we wait for the train, old Alexander Campbell, a shop foreman for S.P., and probably old man Smith's boss came along to catch the same train to go out on the line somewhere. Left to right: Alexander Campbell. Old man Smith. Campbell had a bum leg and carried a cane. Smith has his gun.
