Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph, from left to right, of Agnes Whitaker, Forrest Whitaker and Josie Shaw caught strolling around Palm Springs. Agnes and Forrest Whitaker stand on a street corner while Josie Shaw approaches them from the street. Agnes stands in profile facing right. Forrest stands slightly in front of her. He faces left, but his head is turned towards camera. He has a hand raised to his forehead, shading his face from the sun. Josie walks towards them with her back to the camera. Palm trees stand on either side of the sidewalk. The front of a building is at right. Signs for the corner business read, "[...]te Sho[...]," and "Shipped." At left and around the corner from the storefront, another business sign reads, "PALM SPRINGS EMPLOYMENT AGENCY." On the sidewalk extending into the background at left, a sign reads, "PARKING 1 HOUR [undecipherable]." Transformers stand in the distant open space between the building and a palm tree. Text from negative sleeve: Palm Springs, Calif. May 2, 1942. From Idyllwild we drove over the Palms to Pines Highway to Palm Springs, returning via Beaumont to Los Angeles. Caught a street scene. L to R: Agnes Whitaker. Forrest Whitaker. Josie Shaw.
