Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. H. H. West watches his cousin, William Mead, fill a water barrel. West holds a metal bucket. He wears a large hat and boots, and has his foot up on a barrel. He leans his face on his fist. Mead wears a hat and overalls. He has a mustache. There are horses behind them and a wooden fence at the right. There is a field at the right and there are trees in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 669. East. Red Oak, Iowa. Meads farm. Sept. 1900. This old well with the Old Oaken Bucket was right behind the house - the south side. I pose for a picture drinking from the old bucket pulled up by rope. We take the gun and go hunting down on a slough on the farm. There is a big spring here and I take a drink. Will Mead takes me going to the spring with Walter Biddick. I am wearing a huge straw hat. Will Mead filling the water barrel at the spring while I look on. Will Mead with the horses and Walter Biddick at the spring. 5 negatives.
