Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. H. H. West's cousin, William Mead, stands with a gun while another man runs away from the trap, which has been set to fling a clay blackbird. Mead's back is to the camera. He wears a hat, as does the other man. The trap is set up on a wooden box and there is a piece of cloth on the ground between the two men. There is a field in the background. Text from negative sleeve: East. Red Oak, Iowa. Meads farm. Sept. 1900. Will Mead taking a drink at the old spring by a slough in a pasture on the farm. We went down to Biddick, a little cross road corner settlement, where there was a blacksmith shop and store. Here Will Mead and some of the other farmer boys had a barrel of clay blackbirds, and we took them out in a pasture behind the blacksmith shop for a shoot. Will Mead with gun getting ready to shoot. A boy has just set the trap for the throw. 2 negatives.
