Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. An underexposed photograph of the campsite set up by H. H. West and company at Hessian Meadows. In the near distance, members of the camping party stand and sit around the campsite at center. A horse (maybe two) stand in partial view at left. A cart and additional horses stand behind the members of the traveling party. A large tree stands in the distance at left and Hessian Meadows stretches beyond it. Text from negative sleeve: 678. Monache Meadows, Calif. 1914. Our camp at Hessian meadows. Poor negative. Al Schmitz is reclining at the right in one of the two of the camp. H.H.West with the first deer he ever killed. Shot with 28 gauge Ross Rifle. Head was mounted on reaching Los Angeles. Glen Velzy brought it in from Lone Pine on the train for mounting, as Al and I picked up our famil[sic] families and went to Silver Lake for a vacat[sic] vacation.
