The woman identified as Mertie West does not appear to be Mertie West. Photograph of Bertha Keethler and other women standing and waiting on the platform of the Mount Lowe Railway for the incline car up to Mount Lowe. She stands, left-of-center, at a railing on the platform and looks towards the camera. Unidentified women stand at the top of a set of stairs at the right edge of the platform. A set of stairs rises behind Bertha at right. Shadows of two men are cast onto the platform's wall, right in front of Bertha. Mountains are visible in the distance at right.
