Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a horse pushing a Mt. Lowe Scenic Railway mule train trolley car along the tracks at Mount Lowe. People sit aboard a trolley that rides along the rails in the near distance at right. A horse, viewed from behind, is hitched to the near side of the trolley car and pushes the car along the tracks. The tracks start at center and curve to the right and out of frame. A sign on the roof of the trolley car reads, "Please Keep Away From HERBERT THE MULE He C???S No Petting." Two fairly identical signs stand at left on the trail. They read, "MT.LOWE Scenic Railway Mule Train ('Herbert' on Duty) ROUTE FROM INSPIRATION POINT TO PANORAMA POINT A WONDERFUL SCENIC TRIP THU EATON CANYON ABOUT 3 MILES TAKES 35 MINUTES FARE ROUND TRIP 35¢ CHILDREN 20¢ PERFECTLY SAFE NO GRADES DO NOT MISS IT THE MULE PUSHES THE CAR BOTH WAYS TO KEEP [???] THE DUST & TO UNOBSTRUCT THE VIEW O.M. & M. [???]." A hill stands behind the trolley and beyond that and to the right, a communications tower stands in the distance. Text from negative sleeve: Mount Lowe, Calif. 1932.
