Elizabeth stands in the foreground and in partial shadow with her back to the camera. She faces towards the center of the image where her mother is riding a donkey through a stream. Mary sits atop a donkey with her back to camera and faces right. She fords the stream and approaches the trail that emerges from the right side it.
