Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a fisherman posing on Newport Pier with the large sea bass he caught. He stands at center and looks to the camera. He holds the bass by its tail at left and holds a bamboo fishing pole at right. Equipment stacked on the pier sits directly behind him. Cuts of lumber and an elevated platform are to his right. Further in the distance, a water tower stands on the right. Cars are parked in front of beachside businesses in the background at left. Signs on the businesses read, "[CA]RDS & POO[L]," "ORANGE COUNTY WINE CO. FIRST FOR THIRST Maier BOTTLED BEER [???] [????] LIGHT AND DARK," "FIRST FOR THIRST Maier ON DRAUGHT," and "BAR." Telephone poles and lines occupy the background at left. Text from negative sleeve: 706. Newport Beach, Calif. April 1914. See negative #631 - Laguna Beach. Glen Velzy and I had been fishing at Laguna, and on the way home stopped at Newport Beach and took some photos of our catch. 7 pictures of myself with our fish. 4 pictures of Glen Velzy with our fish. 2 pictures of myself on the Newport Pier with a big sea bass some fellow had caught. 2 pictures of the fellow who caught the big sea bass. Now unknown. 15 negatives.
