Photograph of a group of 5 people gathered at the shore around a dinghy on the water's edge. The boat and the group are at center. A woman stands on the shore in front of the bow. A man stands at the water's edge and another man stands in the dinghy as both try to fiddle with the sail. A boy walks in the water, passing in front of the boat with his back to the camera. Another man lies in the boat. The shoreline extends up the right side of the image. Beachgoers and boats can be seen in the water in the background. Buildings line a shoreline in the distance.
Text from negative sleeve: 707. Newport Beach, Calif. August 20, 1938. We were visiting Wayne West at Santa Ana and we drove down to Balboa or Newport Beach to see Wilson and Eleanor West who were camoing[sic] down there. They were camped on the beach of the lagoon and out in front of their camp were children playing with boats. I took this photo.
