The camera appears to rest upon a flat concrete surface, beyond which distant parts of the campus are visible. The concrete sits in the foreground and occupies the lower third of the image. In the distance, the 100-foot power plant smokestack rises near the center of the image. It collapsed in the 1906 earthquake. Additional buildings and trees stand in the distance. In the far distance hills can be seen. Text from negative sleeve: Palo Alto, Calif. September [handwritten:] ^ 25 [end handwritten] 1898.
