Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Shadowy photograph of Cleo Swain crouching down by the bank of Piru Creek to wash some kettles. Cleo Swain crouches down along the bank left-of-center and faces towards the camera. He appears to look down at a kettle or pot sitting on the ground in front of him. The creek flows to the right of him. The bank is on the left, sloping upward. It curves behind him to the right. In the background, a couple trees stand among rocks that sit on the ground. Text from negative sleeve: 734. Piru Creek, Calif. Near Billy Smitt's cabin. We drove my Buick right down by the Piru. Party was H.H.West, Cleo Swain and Winnie Scott of the Western Rubber and Supply Co., and Mills Helen a friend of Swains. About 1917. 1. H.H.West with string of trout from Piru. 2.
