She stands right-of-center and holds a piece of fruit in her right hand. She casts her gaze down to the ground at left where a small dog sits with its back to the camera. A woman (possibly Mrs. Smith), in partial view, steps a foot into frame at left. A large orange tree stands directly behind Pearl. Beyond the right side of the tree, the orange orchard is visible. Text from negative sleeve: 742. Pomona, Calif. About 1895. The Smith Ranch near North Pomona, or Claremont. Bim Smith's folks had a ranch there, bounded on the north by the Santa Fe railroad.
