Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. According to the negative sleeve, the group is identified from left to right. This is incorrect, from left to right they are: Mertie West, Agnes Whitaker, Josie Shaw and Forrest Whitaker. Photograph, from left to right, of Mertie West, Agnes Whitaker, Josie Shaw and Forrest Whitaker sitting around a table and taking a meal at their camp near Rock Creek. They sit around a table, left-of-center, and beneath their camp's canopy. Mertie sits leftmost, facing right. She turns her head towards the camera to look to Agnes Whitaker who sits to her right. Agnes Whitaker sits with her back to the camera on the front side of the table. Across the table, Josie Shaw faces towards the camera as she brings a cup to her mouth. Forrest Whitaker sits to the right of her. He sits back from the table, facing and looking to the left. In front of him, a long stick stands upright to prop up the canopy. On the far side of the canopy and in front of the trees, their supplies sit in crates and on tables, lining the back perimeter of their campsite. Text from negative sleeve: 859. Rock Creek trip 1941.
