Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. A distant view of H. H. West and company's campsite set up in the vicinity of the McCloud River. Their gear sits in the distance on the edge of a clearing among large, cut logs at left. The logs are remnants of a logging operation that had been abandoned. Their car is parked to the right of their gear. It is viewed at an angle from the rear and the side; it faces towards the right. A hill rises to the right. It appears to have been burnt and is dotted with pine trees. Pine trees also span the background at left. A streak of white stretches on an upward angle from the lower left corner of the frame. Text from negative sleeve: 1034. Trinity County trip, 1917. Two views of our camp on McCloud River near its source, about 15 or 20 miles east of McCloud. On a level grassy bench right on the river, with big logs around us. The surrounding country had been cut overm [sic] burnt over and abandoned. An old saw mill close by was falling into ruin. We saw only one party in our two day stay here and they only stopped to eat lunch. A swell camp. Harry Schmitz is standing by the logs in one view. 2 films.
