West's Buick in front of a hotel in Doyle. Harry Schmitz stands at far right in front of the side of H. H. West's Buick. He looks to the camera while holding a jacket in one arm. Wilfrid Cline, Jr. is center and sits in the backseat of the Buick. He is behind and to the left of Harry. Wilfrid turns his head to look to the camera. The car (partial view) is parked at right, in front of the hotel. It is viewed from the side and faces right. The front end of the car extends beyond the right edge. The hotel occupies the background. A porch spans across the image behind the car. A sign hanging from a post behind Wilfrid reads, "HOTEL [...] [DO]YLE." Text from negative sleeve: 1052. Trinity County trip, 1917. Doyle, Calif. From Coon Camp we go down past Eagle Lake to Doyle. We ate supper in the hotel. My Buick in front of the Hotel. Leftto [sic] right: Wilfrid Cline Jr. Harry Schmitz. Had to go down by the railway tracks to camp for the night. When Harry Schmitz rolled up his bedding in the morning he found several scorpions under the mattress where they had crawled to keep warm. 1 film
