West gather by their cars which are parked in front of the south wall of Sutter's Fort. Sutter's Fort stands in the distance on the opposite side of the street. Ivy covers the wall as it stretches across the image. A drive leads away from the entry to the fort (left-of-center) and towards the cars parked in the mid-ground. Dave Smith and his wife, Isabelle are by their car at left; it faces right. Nella West and Mary A. West are by H. H. West's Buick at right; it too faces right.
