He sits in the near distance, low in the photograph. A downed tree extends from the bottom edge at center. H. H. West sits upon it and faces right. He appears to prop his foot on a boulder standing to his right. The stream appears to flow among rocks low across the image. The base of a mountain or hillside rises in the background. It is covered in rocks and dotted with brush and trees. Text from negative sleeve: 1127. Smith West tour August 1913. Cottonwood Creek. We got in there the last day of August and next day September first the golden trout season opened and we were the only fishermen in there. 1. H.H.West's Buick on the grade up Cottonwood Creek. 2. We camped at the only level place a level place by the bridge. 3. Our camp. Nella West standing talking to Mrs Dave Smith, sitting. 4. Our camp. Dave Smith by the stove. 5. Very brushy.
