Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Mary A. West (Mary Adelbert Teel West Shepard) was H. H. West's first wife and the mother of his children. Mary West and Bessie Velzy sit on a fountain across the street from Mission San Fernando Rey de España. Both women wear hats and hold bags in their hands. Mrs. Velzy has a black bow on her shirt. The fountain is crumbling at various points. The mission has a Spanish tiled roof. There is a tree at the right. Though the negative sleeve identifies this as San Juan Capistrano, it instead appears to be Mission San Fernando, Rey de Espana. Text from negative sleeve: 1136. Velzy West tour 1909. San Juan Capistrano, Calif. 1. L to R: Mrs Mary A West. Mrs Bessie Velzy. 2. Group of 4, apparently some visitors there who wanted a picture and I took them, sending copy to them later. Bess Velzy is third from left. Mrs West not in it. Maybe she took the picture. 2 films.
