Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Bessie Velzy sits on a fountain with three other women across the street from Mission San Fernando Rey de España. All four women wear hats. Mrs. Velzy has a black bow on her shirt. In the background, just in front of the mission, there is a bell with a sign attached that reads, in part, "El Camino Real." The fountain is crumbling at various points. The mission has a Spanish tiled roof. There is a tree at the right. Though the negative sleeve identifies this as San Juan Capistrano, it instead appears to be Mission San Fernando, Rey de Espana. Text from negative sleeve: 1136. Velzy West tour 1909. San Juan Capistrano, Calif. 1. L to R: Mrs Mary A West. Mrs Bessie Velzy. 2. Group of 4, apparently some visitors there who wanted a picture and I took them, sending copy to them later. Bess Velzy is third from left. Mrs West not in it. Maybe she took the picture. 2 films.
