Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. According to the negative sleeve for this set, these photographs are of the San Diego Fair, about 1912. This building was not built until 1914. It is more likely that these images are were taken closer to 1915. In 1915 and through 1916, San Diego hosted the Panama-California Exposition, for which many of the buildings in the photographs were built. The photographs most likely document this event. Photograph of the Spreckels Organ Pavilion and Spreckels Organ in Balboa Park as seen from the audience. The facade of the Spreckels Organ Pavilion stands in the distance at center and is viewed at a slight angle. Visitors to the pavilion sit in rows in the foreground with their backs to the camera and facing the organ. The pipe organ sits recessed in a decorative portal within the pavilion. Additional Italian-Renaissance decorative elements ornament the building. A portion of one of the pavilion's colonnades extends from the pavilion's left side. Text from negative sleeve: 1149.
