According to the negative sleeve for this set, these photographs are of the San Diego Fair, about 1912. The Home Economy Building, viewed here was not built until 1915. It is likely that this image was taken around 1915. In 1915 and through 1916, San Diego hosted the Panama-California Exposition, for which many of the buildings in this set of photographs were built. The photographs most likely document this event.
Photograph, from left to right, of Christina Schmitz, H. H. West, Minnie West, Frances Cline and Elizabeth West posing while riding on an Osborn Electriquette along El Prado near the Home Economy Building in Balboa Park. The group sits in and on the motorized passenger conveyance in the middle of the walkway. The wicker electriquette is viewed at an angle from the side and faces right. Sitting across the seat at the back of the vehicle are: Christina Schmitz, H. H. West and Minnie West. All three look to the camera; Minnie West sits slightly forward of H. H. At right, Frances Cline and Elizabeth West sit atop the front end of the conveyance. Both hold onto sticks and look towards the camera. Balboa Park stretches behind the group. At right, people stand on a lawn to the right of the Home Economy Building. A corner of the Home Economy Building stands behind the group at center and the sides of the building stretch towards the left and the right. Its tower rises in the distance at left. Ivy climbs the right side of the building and trees line El Prado alongside the left side of the building. El Prado stretches behind the group at left. A couple people walk along the thoroughfare and a couple of electriquettes travel along it as well.
